This is a wonderful introduction to the joyous world of Brother Cadfael, 12th century monk and amateur sleuth.
The second book, especially is a solid beginning of the Cadfael journey. It is my all time favourite.
Stunningly written it is a gentle clever read without any of the gratuitous violence, sex and nastiness so prevalent in most novels.
Books for adult, teenager and child alike.

"The Benediction of Brother Cadfael" is a wonderful introduction for anyone unfamiliar with the murder-solving "Brother Herbalist" of the Benedictine Abbey of St. Peter and St. Paul in Shrewsbury. It also makes a wonderful gift for those already in love with the good brother.
This oversized volume contains the complete text of the first two "Brother Cadfael" novels, seperated by a lovely illustrated section discussing medieval Benedictine life, Shrewsbury, the Welsh border, St. Winifrid, the Abbey (which is still in existence) and other items of interest.
Enjoy this wonderful book. A solid four stars.

Race Music is a wonderful example of music scholarship. Ramsey's work provides a rigourous, fresh, and inciteful look into African American Music. Unlike many music scholars who unsuccessfully negotiate the academic and popualar terrains simultaneously, Ramsey presents an unflinchingly academic book in a way that allows the lay public access into his wonderful world of idas. A must read!!!!

I, personally, find this book as THE reference book in studying the journey of our music through different eras. You cannot find a more comprehensive in-depth study of the music of our soul, thoroughly executed and written, even to the point it literally takes you through the time tunnel and puts you at the very feet of the pioneers of "race music." Dr. Ramsey's book is so well-written, that musicians and music listeners alike can relate to the experiences described in various chapters. He is "on point," hitting controversial subjects regarding race music "head-on!" A must-have in your collection! I've had my copy for over 3 years, and I'm still getting nuggets out of it!!! Gotta get your own copy - can't have mine!!! Good reading!

Blue, Dr. Reynard with a PhD in Botany, offers the cottage on his property as a center for Ellie's investigation into Mabel's life. Blue lives in Mabel's home town which offers a treasure trove of information as to who this wonderful blues singer was and what might have happened to her. Ellie (real name Velvet Sunset) is on a parallel quest, to find her unknown father. Yet this summer will give her the chance to discover more about herself than about Mabel or the missing man who fathered her. For Blue, meeting Ellie breaks down walls of protection errected around his life;One filled with loss of his parents, early and his wife five years ago. Driven by the relationship building between these finely carved characters, Ruth Wind has fashioned a deep, pulsating love story. Ruth Wind - Where have you been all my life?

I am one of those people who never pays any attention to "category" romances - just breeze right by them--so this book was my first exposure to Ruth Wind. Boy, have I been missing out! She is a fabulous writer, with the ability to wrap a location around you, people it with believable characters, and even give you a sound track to go with it. I devoured this book in two days, with the house practically falling down around me, but I couldn't stop until I had all the answers. I loved the characters--small town, but not cliches or caricatures, and I loved Pine Bend, with it's heat and its food, it's sorrows and its secrets. I can't get enough of Pine Bend, and I can't get enough of Ruth Wind. Anyone who is getting tired of romantic suspense, or who wants something a little more in-depth and darker-edged than Krentz or Roberts, look no further.

It was a good story with unexpected endings.

It was more of a mystery than a romance. I prefer to be more emotionally drawn in than this book provided. However, someone looking for more human relationships fiction and mystery might enjoy this more than I did.

Ellie traveled to Pine Bend, Texas, to do research for a book she was writing about Mabel Beauvais. Mabel was a blues singer who disappeared twenty to thirty years earlier. Ellie was also trying to discover who her father was. She knew he was in Pine Bend when Ellie was conceived. Ellie's mother died when Ellie was six months old. The story was a little frustrating when Ellie talked to people who knew answers to her questions but refused to tell her anything. The ending was satisfying and the answers to the mysteries were good and unexpected. Although there was some underlying sadness in the story due to so many good young men dying in the Vietnam war, leaving their loved ones to live on without them.

Regarding the SPOILERS below,I am not giving away answers to the main mysteries.

CAUTION SPOILERS:
Ellie and Blue fell in love. The problem for them was that everyone Blue had loved had died on him, so he was reluctant to love again. Why he changed his mind at the end of the book and decided to be with her and not fear losing her was not clear enough for me.

I was also confused with a few scenes throughout the book titled "The Lovers." When reading them I wasn't sure if they were a dreams of Ellie or Blue or were flashbacks to events in the lives of Mabel or Ellie's mother. At the end of the book I concluded they were of Ellie's parents, but I would have preferred knowing this earlier when reading them.

I loved reading Courting Her Rebel: (Taken by Cowboys: Part 2) A Billionaire Western Romance, all about Spencer & Nate the co-owners & business partners of Guest Ranch & Jessica a NYC girl looking for relaxation away from the hustle & bustle of city life. In part 1 she has an instant attraction to Spencer. In part 2 she's still very attracted to Spencer but is also very attracted to Nate! The author wrote an amazing story that is spanning thru all five parts, and the characters are bringing the story to life. Nate is very attracted to Jessica and is jealous of Spencer, and wants her bad! Read this book it will make you laugh, sigh, shake your head and cum! Enjoy reading about Guest Ranch. I can't wait to read part three. Come and read about the hot Cowboys at Guest Ranch, you won't be disappointed, I know I wasn't!
