Imposible leer el libro sin relacionarlo con nuestra propia vida. Trata de la relacion de una mujer con su hija y su nieta, pasando ademas por sus relaciones con los hombres. De una forma realista, no sentimental, nos llena de ternura y de gratitud hacia nuestro nucleo familiar, aunque este no siempre haya sido perfecto.

About the Author
Steve Cannon is a geologist by profession, a petrophysicist by inclination and a reservoir modeller by design.  Graduating in 1977, Steve has worked as a geologist and petrophysicist in all sectors of the oil and gas industry, including government, major and independent oil companies, the service sector and consultancy.  Having had the opportunity to work offshore and in a core analysis laboratory, as well as a reservoir geologist has helped to shape his appreciation of petrophysics constrained by geology.  Steve is a Past-President of the London Petrophysical Society.

About the Author
Shanny Jean Maney is both a performance poet and teacher. With Robbie Q. Telfer, she co-founded The Encyclopedia Show, a radical literary reading/spectacular which now runs in venues all across the globe. You are worth real butter. Do you have a cast iron skillet? Everyone should have a cast iron skillet. If you own one piece of kitchen equipment, make it a cast iron skillet. They are cheap and strong. You are worth a cast iron skillet. Youʼve gotta see where this is going. Make the dough. Smack it into the skillet. Bake the skillet ʻtil the cookie is done. 375°F? 25-35 minutes? Youʼll know. Call your honey over. If your cute sweetie doesnʼt swoon over that yum-cookie smell and smooch you on the spot, think long and hard. Go ahead. Iʼll wait. If the butterʼs not butter, itʼs not butter. If the cookieʼs not done, itʼs not good. If your sweetie ainʼt sweet, start over. Ainʼt more complicated than that.

Music to my brain!

I wish I could do the video review for this book (my computer is not sciencey enough). You would see a gigantic I-Love-Science!-induced grin across my face. Friendly, accessible poetry that you can enjoy on the surface or choose to dig deeper and consider over a drink. A great book to read through, then keep on your nightstand to pick through before bed. I highly recommend this compact and concentrated volume for your collection. The only knock I have is the cover. Sad to see a kid get shot by light like that. A bit too graphic for me.

Sometimes we say things. Like "I hate poetry." Then we readr things like Shanny's book and we say "Oh. Nevermind. Remember that thing I said? Totally not true."

This collection of poems will make you laugh out loud. Embarrassingly loud. In public. Then. You'll cry. I promise you. If you have any heart within you. Your soul will reach out and hug the author...and she will feel the embrace.

You can read poetry. You can do it.

I had anxiously been awaiting the publication of this book. I was GIDDY when it showed up on the

I think this might be one of the most artfully crafted books in Write Bloody's cannon. The organization using the scientific process . . . I thought it was gimmicky but logical when I flipped through the book, but after reading it, it is so, so perfect. The way that poems overlap and reference each other, the way the order of the poems allows them to converse and inform each other, the way certain poems that are contradictory to that moment in the narrative rest perfectly and seem perfect and right and breathe and good.

It's such a good book. It is so artful, and not just the poems (which are, yes, yes), but the way every choice, every placement, helps create this narrative. The way living is so hard and so precious and so simple.

As a writer, it is intimidating. As someone who strives to do those things, it is encouraging. As a poet with a billion different poems about a billion different things, it makes a book feel so far off. It also makes me want to try. As a female writer and performance artists, I am very aware of how hard it can be to be truthful about the female experience, and Ms. Maney does it with such tenderness, humor, and hope. The exploration of her miscarriage and the careful living done in its wake make "The Real Monster" one of the most heart-breaking moments in poetry that I've ever experienced.

My heart broke a million times. It also healed in the most magnificent and honest ways.

This book is intelligent, sincere, accessible, hilarious, well crafted, honest, and full of everything I aspire to as a woman and a writer. It turned my heart into a prism, and I can ask nothing more of a book.

Playing dress-up has never been so much fun. Through cumulative text and rebuses, this upbeat picture book traces a girl's elaborate preparations for a party--from putting on shiny shoes and a fancy hair ribbon to adorning herself with earrings, perfume and a handkerchief edged with lace. Readers are in for a surprise, too, as Neitzel cleverly conceals the fact that this is indeed dress-up until suddenly mother appears--"This is my mother who said, 'Oh, dear!' " She promptly removes each of the purloined items and sends her slip-clad daughter scurrying off to put on her own, more appropriate, party dress. Adding to the festive mood are Winslow's crisp illustrations (her rainbow of fashionable colors appears both playful and chic) and a clear design featuring generous white space. Ages 3-up.

"My earliest memories are of my mother reading aloud. A lot of characters from books were real to me, as our family ritual included bedtime stories for me and chapters from longer books for the older children.

"I wanted to read for myself, so I often lay on the kitchen floor while my mother worked and I 'read' to her from memory. Soon I realized I could tell the story more exactly if I looked carefully at the words on the page. Spelling aloud the words I couldn't figure out, I worked my way through enough stories to satisfy me until our nightly reading session.

"I was eager to start kindergarten, and the day finally came when I walked the mile from our small farm in the western part of Michigan's Upper Peninsula to a one-room school. I watched eagerly as the teacher gave each child a stack of books. When she gave me only one, I was disappointed, but I turned it sideways and read the parts that said 'To the Teacher.' Then I carefully followed the directions. When my teacher said she wanted to talk to my mother, I thought I was in trouble, but it turned out she thought I should work with the first graders. That made me happy because they each had more than one book.

"My love of reading continued. In sixth grade I went to the 'big' school in town. The school had a room with one whole wall filled with books. Immediately, I decided to read every book in that library. A story I wrote was chosen for our school newspaper. I enjoyed people telling me they liked 'My Life as a Pencil.'

"In high school I won some essay contests, so I thought of a career in journalism. But I became a teacher instead so I could continue reading wonderful books for children. I encouraged my students to write, and sometimes I shared my writing with them.

"While planning one assignment for my students, I played with the pattern of the nursery rhyme 'The House That Jack Built.' My students laughed in the right places, and friends encouraged me to send my rhyme to an editor. It took a lot of courage to do that, but I sent it to Greenwillow. The editor-in-chief, Susan Hirschman, liked my rhyme, and chose Nancy Winslow Parker to illustrate it. Nancy drew little pictures to replace some of the words. The result was The Jacket I Wear in the Snow, the first in our series of rhyme-and-rebus books.

"Usually I start with a topic and decide how the story should end. Then I write little snippets of rhyme and, like putting a puzzle together, figure out how each part connects to another. Before I finish, the story changes many times.

"Sometimes when I read my books to children, one of them says, 'Read it again.' I think that's the best reward a writer can have."

I actually bought this book as a inside joke thing for my 16 year old daughter. We used to read it ALL the time when she was little and sometimes we quote it when one of is going to a party. She got so excited when I gave it to her. I see it out in her room sometimes so I know she's reading it - shes an honor role student and taking all AP classes in her Junior year. I think this calms her...

a book for children of all ages

This story is about a young girl who is getting dressed in her moms cloths and how she has to change out of them to wear hers. Its a great book for young children who are learning to read and want a fun story that they can read over and over agian with there family. When i was helping my little cousin justice learn to read she would love to take this book and read it to everyone and show them that she could read. This book is the one if you are trying to get a child exited about reading.
